FITTING INSTRUCTION

WARNING
  • Accessories which are not correctly installed can be dangerous. Read the instructions carefully prior to installation. Comply with instructions at all times. If in doubt, contact your nearest approved retailer.
CAUTION
  • Under no circumstances is the motor to be removed from the armature when being replaced. The complete armature assembly needs to be returned otherwise any claim will be rejected.
NOTE
  • The towbar wiring harness that must be used is determined by the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle. For vehicles with VIN Z08160 and earlier, the towbar wiring harness J9C5302 must be used. For vehicles with VIN Z08161 and later, the towbar wiring harness J9C13783 must be used.
  • The towbar wiring harness (J9C5302 or J9C13783), tow eye cover (J9C5628) and towbar control module (J9C2466) are not included in the deployable towbar kit (J9C15501). These parts must be ordered separately.

Fitting Instruction

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Startup Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01)

Remove the parcel shelf from the vehicle.

Remove the loadspace floor trim.

If installed, release the spare wheel by turning the retainer counter-clockwise and then remove the spare wheel.

Remove the bumper trim.

Remove the C-pillar left upper trim panel first and then remove the loadspace left trim panel.

Aside the loadspace right trim panel to allow access to the spare wheel cover support.

Remove the spare wheel cover supports from the left and the right sides of the loadspace.

NOTE
  • The appearance of the foam storage block will vary depending on vehicle specification.

Remove the foam storage block.

WARNING
  • This step requires the assistance of another person.

Remove the rear bumper.

CAUTION
  • Retain the tow eye cover fixings.

Remove the standard tow eye cover.

Remove and discard the rear armature and fixings.

Remove and discard the grommet and bezel located in the spare wheel well.

Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material located behind the loadspace left trim panel.

  1. Cut and discard the part shown.
  2. Install the modified part in original location.

Place the towbar control module (D) into the spare wheel well.

Secure the towbar control module (D) using the 2 nuts (E).

  • Torque 5 Nm

WARNING
  • The towbar wiring harness that must be used is determined by the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle. For vehicles with VIN Z08160 and earlier, the towbar wiring harness J9C5302 must be used. For vehicles with VIN Z08161 and later, the towbar wiring harness J9C13783 must be used.

Place the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) into the loadspace.

NOTE
  • To aid installation feed the large connector through the body first.

Follow sequence to complete step.

  1. Feed the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) through the hole in the spare wheel well. Install the grommet, part of the deployable towbar wiring harness, into the hole in the spare wheel well.
  2. Secure the deployable towbar wiring harness to the spare wheel well at the 2 locations as illustrated.

Follow sequence to complete step.

  1. Attach the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) to the ground point using the earth nut (M) as illustrated.
  2. Secure the deployable towbar wiring harness to the bracket as illustrated.
  3. Torque 10 Nm for earth nut.

Connect the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) to the towbar control module (D) as illustrated.

Connect the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) to the vehicle body wiring harness as illustrated.

NOTE
  • Clipping points may differ from illustration.

Attach the deployable towbar wiring harness to the loadspace as illustrated.

Attach the deployable towbar wiring harness to the loadspace as illustrated.

  1. Remove the vehicle body wiring harness from the vehicle body stud.
  2. Attach the deployable towbar wiring harness to the vehicle body stud.
  3. Attach the vehicle body wiring harness to the vehicle body stud over the top of the deployable towbar wiring harness clip.

Install the foam storage block.

Install the spare wheel cover supports to the left and the right sides of the loadspace.

Connect the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) to the speaker (R).

Install the speaker (R) into the spare wheel cover support on the left side of the vehicle as illustrated.

NOTE
  • Remove the power socket from the cover.

Remove the cover from the loadspace left trim panel.

Install the power socket into the deployable towbar switch panel (S).

Install the bezel (N) and deployable towbar switch (P) into the deployable towbar switch panel as illustrated.

Install the deployable towbar switch panel (S) into the loadspace left trim panel as illustrated.

Position the loadspace left trim panel ready for installation. Make sure the rear of the deployable towbar switch and the top part of the deployable towbar wiring harness, is still accessible.

Connect the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) to the deployable towbar switch (P).

  • Make sure the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) is connected to the deployable towbar switch (P) before completing step.

Complete the installation of the loadspace left trim panel and then install the C-pillar left upper trim panel.

Lower the exhaust rear section.

  • If the vehicle has INGENIUM diesel engine:
    For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Exhaust System (309-00A)
  • If the vehicle has INGENIUM petrol engine:
    For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Exhaust System (309-00B)

  • This step requires the assistance of another person.
NOTE
  • Tighten the bolts (C) hand tight at this stage.

Install the deployable towbar (A) to the vehicle and secure with the 4 bolts (C), as illustrated. There are 2 bolts located on each side of the deployable towbar.

  • Tighten the bolts (F) hand tight at this stage.

Install the 8 bolts (F) as illustrated. There are 4 bolts on each side of the deployable towbar armature.

Feed the 3 parts of the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) along and beneath the deployable towbar armature as illustrated.

Connect the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) to the deployable towbar motor unit as illustrated.

Follow sequence to complete step.

  1. Connect the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) to the socket in the middle of the deployable towbar armature.
  2. Secure the deployable towbar wiring harness to the deployable towbar armature using the clips as illustrated.

Follow sequence to complete step.

  1. Connect the deployable towbar wiring harness (B) to the socket at the end of the deployable towbar armature.
  2. Secure the deployable towbar wiring harness to the deployable towbar armature using the clips as illustrated.

Using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment, configure the deployable towbar electrics.

Check the operation of the deployable towbar using the deployable towbar switch in the vehicle loadspace.

Check the operation of the trailer lamps and the vehicle lamps.

  • Torque 170 Nm

Tighten the 4 bolts (C).

  • Torque 170 Nm

  • Observe bolt tightening sequence on both sides of the vehicle.
  • Torque 100 Nm +240° +/-5°

Tighten the bolts (F) in the sequence shown. There are 4 bolts on each side of the deployable towbar armature.

  • Torque 100 Nm +240° +/-5°

Raise the exhaust rear section.

  • If the vehicle has INGENIUM diesel engine:

  • This step may not be required if the bumper already has a cutout.

Identify the cut guide lines on the inside of the rear valance.

Using suitable tools, cut the section from the rear valance by following the cut guide lines. Discard the removed section.

Install the rear bumper.

Install the tow eye cover (G) over the rear valance.

Connect the startup battery ground cable.

Install the loadspace right trim panel.

Install the bumper trim.

Install the spare wheel if required. Secure the spare wheel by turning the retainer clockwise.

Install the loadspace floor trim.

Install the parcel shelf into the vehicle if required.
